Product overview

Modern automatics pack in more gears, more clutch packs, and narrower oil passages than the transmissions they replaced, and all of it depends on clean fluid. OE Multi-Vehicle ATF is the synthetic choice for owners who change fluid on the schedule in the owner's manual.

It covers a wide range of multi-vehicle specifications and delivers wear protection, sludge resistance, and extreme-temperature performance throughout the original equipment manufacturer's recommended drain interval.

Varnish, sticking valves, and heat

Heat damages an automatic transmission in two stages: the fluid breaks down, and then the residue it leaves behind starts interfering with hardware. OE Multi-Vehicle ATF uses a thermally stable formulation that resists the varnish that can stick valves, which is what turns an orderly valve body into an erratic one.

The same stability limits heat-related evaporation and viscosity loss, so the fluid working late in the interval stays closer to what went into the pan. The published viscosity index is 181, a measure of how steadily the fluid holds its viscosity as temperature swings.

Seal conditioners and the leak question

A high-mileage transmission often starts losing fluid before it loses function, and the usual cause is a seal or gasket that has dried out and cracked. OE Multi-Vehicle ATF is formulated with seal conditioners that help keep those parts from drying out and cracking, which lowers the risk of a leak developing.

That is a maintenance argument rather than a repair one. Conditioners help an intact seal stay intact, while a seal that has already failed is a mechanical job that no fluid change substitutes for.

Clutch engagement and cold-start shifts

Friction modifiers in OE Multi-Vehicle ATF promote fast, smooth clutch engagement, which shows up as prompt shift response and clean torque transfer. In both normal and severe service, the fluid resists wear to the valve body, gears, clutch plates, and other vital parts.

Cold mornings belong to the same discussion. The fluid stays fluid in sub-zero temperatures with a pour point of -45°C (-49°F) and a Brookfield viscosity of 10,200 cP at -40°C, resisting the thickening that drags out the first shifts of the day.

Two limits to check before ordering

Two boundaries decide whether this fluid belongs in a given transmission. It is not for use in continuously variable transmissions or Ford Type F applications, and while it is warranted for Chrysler ATF+4 applications above -38°F, it does not meet the ATF+4 cold-temperature requirement at -40°F, which matters in the coldest climates.

Past those limits the choice comes down to service plan. Signature Series Multi-Vehicle ATF is the flagship grade for extended-drain service, while OE Multi-Vehicle ATF is formulated to protect through the original equipment interval. Transmissions calling for a thinner fluid take OE Fuel-Efficient ATF at 5.9 cSt at 100°C rather than the 7.5 cSt this grade delivers.

Details and questions

Who should choose OE Multi-Vehicle ATF over Signature Series?

Drivers who prefer to follow original equipment drain intervals and still want synthetic protection. Signature Series Multi-Vehicle ATF targets longer guaranteed intervals in normal service where the application allows.

Can OE Multi-Vehicle ATF be used in a CVT?

No. It is not for use in continuously variable transmissions or Ford Type F applications. Belt-drive and chain-drive CVTs take AMSOIL Synthetic CVT Fluid.

Does OE Multi-Vehicle ATF cover Chrysler ATF+4 applications?

It is warranted for Chrysler ATF+4 applications above -38°F. The fluid does not meet the ATF+4 cold-temperature requirement at -40°F, so colder climates need the match returned by the AMSOIL vehicle lookup guide.

Is OE Multi-Vehicle ATF a full synthetic?

Yes. It is a 100% synthetic multi-vehicle automatic transmission fluid that covers a wide range of multi-vehicle specifications and delivers wear protection, sludge resistance, and extreme-temperature performance throughout the original equipment manufacturer's recommended drain interval.

How often should OE Multi-Vehicle ATF be changed?

Follow the vehicle manufacturer's recommended drain interval. The OE line is formulated to protect through the full original equipment interval.

Which package sizes does OE Multi-Vehicle ATF come in?

Quart bottles, gallon jugs, 2.5 gallon jugs, 55 gallon drums, and 275 gallon totes. Order OE Multi-Vehicle ATF online. To unlock up to 25% off, add an AMSOIL Preferred Customer membership to the same cart and qualifying products switch to member pricing immediately, with no separate sign-up step.
